Older Audiences
Padma Venkatraman's philosophy has always been that the story comes first and the target audience comes later. She begins the work, and as it progresses, she starts to think about the appropriate age group. She has written books for adults and young adults.

Padma Venkatraman's first novel, Climbing the Stairs, is set in India in the 1940's. Putnam-Penguin, USA, is scheduled to release the book in May 2008. If you are interested in purchasing this novel as soon as it is in print, please write and let the author know, using the contact form.

Padma Venkatraman has also completed a biography for older audiences - a work of nonfiction about the life and work of Caroline Herschel, the first professional female in the history of astronomy. This book was published by Morgan Reynolds Publishing in Spring 2007. Padma Venkatraman is currently working on another biography that features female mathematicians.

Padma Venkatraman began writing poetry at a very early age. Her interest was fostered by many teachers at the School, K.F.I. Her determination to become a writer deepened during the year that she spent at Brockwood Park School, where she was greatly encouraged by her teacher, Stephen Smith. A poetry collection, Paper Etchings, was published in 2004.

...a rare sensitivity to the sights and sounds of nature...
