Padma Venkatraman (T. V. Padma) enjoys writing regular columns and freelance articles that make science and mathematics accessible to the general public. Her research has been highlighted in the news section of international journals such as Science. In 1995, she worked as staff writer for the children's magazine Gokulam, and wrote a monthly column called "Padma's pages". She has also been a columnist for the Times of India, Maitree (a corporate website), Sanctuary, Chatterbox, and Kahani (A literary quarterly for South Asian American children that won the 2006 Distinguished Acheivement Award, granted by the Association of Educational Publishers, and a 2007 Parent's Choice Award). Her freelance submissions have appeared in many magazines in India, Europe, and America, including Cricket, Highlights for Children, Appleseeds, Calliope, Dig, Faces, Odyssey, and Ask (from the publishers of Smithsonian magazine).

Currently, she writes weekly columns for the Young World section of The Hindu (a leading Indian newspaper, established in 1848).
