When she was preparing a talk on Women in Science for a symposium organized by the Women's Studies department at the College of William and Mary, her colleague, Alessandra Sagasti, introduced her to the story of Caroline Herschel - a woman who had become a professional astronomer in 1787. Intrigued by this tale, Padma Venkatraman began to research Caroline Herschel's life. The result was Double Stars: The Story of Caroline Herschel, a biography that was published by Morgan Reynolds in Spring 2007. Padma Venkatraman is currently working on another biography for Morgan Reynolds that features 8 female mathematicians.
Padma Venkatraman is happy to write "for hire" on subject areas of interest, including (but not limited to): Indian history and culture, Hinduism, Buddhism, Yoga, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, and any aspect of Oceanography.
